K-Lacura – Portraits Of The Faceless (S-a-N PR)

Yet another contender to enter the UK hardcore/ nu metal ring, K-Lacura are straight from the mean streets of Didcot, Oxon. The band were formed by school friends back in 2006 and this is their debut album. Citing the likes of Killswitch Engage and Parkway Drive as influences the band’s sound is hard and heavy with brutal riffing aplenty. I would suggest the KSE influence is most prevalent as the guys inject a fair amount of melody into the mix and although they do succumb to the growling vocal style on occasion there are also some good vocal passages, there is a decent vocalist in there trying to get out.

There is also a fair amount of good lead and twin guitar work as displayed on ‘Drop Down’. Another track of note is ‘Fold’ which really showcases the band’s range of song writing containing some excellent softer passages woven in between driving heavy passages, this song also contains the best vocal performance on the album, a track with a lot of depth.

Portraits Of The Faceless shows a good bit of talent and promise. Although the band will be pigeon- holed in the hardcore scene, just as I did at the beginning of the review, from this showing they have the talent to transcend that label and develop their own niche. It will be interesting to see which route they take in the future.
