SEVEN – Under Eye

This is the second album release from this London based quartet and it is a bit of a gem. The band play a heavy melodic prog, think Tool mixed with a bit of Slipknot and Korn’s bass sound and you are on the right lines. Add to this an excellent vocal performance from Dave Brown and you have a compelling mix. The one thing that stands out across the album is the Steve Vai-like guitar work from Nick Meier, his playing really adds an extra dynamic layer to the band’s sound which helps lift Seven above the norm.

Tracks to look out for here come in the shape of ‘ The Ice Man’, ‘ Run’ and ‘ Wannabe’ the latter thankfully being more like Slipknot than the Spice Girls, but all tracks are well worth a spin. The band should also be an interesting prospect live with their powerhouse sound, complex rhythms and that guitar work from Meier, Seven are ones to watch out for during 2012.
