STRAWBERRY FIELDS – Live Strawberry Fields

Metal Mind Productions (DVD 2012)

Some quality rock here, and a stunning live show with some beautiful female vocals – and a distinct prog feel.

The live show starts in rather polite fashion but there is a good live show and “Open your Eyes” is a strong and very solid number. Think a less Celtic Karnataka, mixed with a less operatic Nightwish.

The guitar work is sublime, and the mix on the sound is noticeably excellent.

“Close” is more nu, with some programmed sounds, a light pop with industrial touches over the prog rock which somehow works well.

“Rivers Gone Dry”, “Beautiful”  and “Don’t Walk Away In Silence” are amongst the 12 song set – many of the numbers quite long.

There are some nods to Marillian too – not just musically, but being as static on stage.

The music is superb, the song writing and musicianship equally high, but without a huge stage show or lengthy chats there’s not much visually to grasp the non fan. Although singer Robin is quite captivating.

For the average modern prog rock fan, the audio experience (ie a CD) would be much more enjoyable. That said, it’s a good show, a good performance. A little short at 74 minutes, but there are plenty of extras, including band interviews.
