The wonderful Björn Again are confirmed to perform on The Main Stage on Saturday 14th July. Created and founded by director and musician Rod Stephen, Bjorn Again was designed as a rocked-up light-hearted satirical ABBA spoof – which has achieved world-wide cult status since its inception in 1988. The show is widely acknowledged for singlehandedly initiating the ABBA revival which brought about ABBA Gold, Muriel’s Wedding and MAMMA MIA! The enduring appeal of ABBA is reflected in the ongoing success of the Björn Again show, which has amassed an enormous 4,700 performances in 70 countries over 24 years.
Dodgy will be performing on The Good Time Guide Stage on Sunday 15th July. With 12 top 40 singles and 3 top 10s, including catchy hits “Staying out for the Summer” and “Good Enough” (the latter still a staple of radio playlists), Dodgy can lay claim to selling over 1 million albums to date. Their brand new album, “Stand Upright in a Cool Place was released to critical acclaim summer 2011, and they have since toured the UK with their new material. Organisers welcome them to GuilFest for the first time since 2008 for what will no doubt be a show to remember.
Alvin Stardust returns to GuilFest on The Main Stage on Sunday 15th July. Best known for his enormous hits “My Coo-Ca-Choo”, “Jealous Mind”, and “Pretend”, the pop icon with the leather glove (and catsuit) shot to fame with a raft of moody hits with impossibly catchy choruses. One of the first rockers in the UK, he idolised Elvis, toured with Joe Brown, Eden Kane and Billy Fury, amongst others, and turned up at Buddy Holly gigs as a callow youth clutching a £1.50 guitar!
Hotly tipped South London based indie/RnB outfit Bastille will appear on The Good Time Guide Stage on Saturday 14th July. From the early success of their debut “Flaws” which garnered over 250,000 views on Youtube and has been treated to scores of covers by performers around the world, Bastille have gone from strength to strength with a run of sold-out shows in 2011 and appearances at many major festivals. Organisers are very excited to have this fantastic new band at GuilFest for the first time and are expecting them to become one of the major success stories of the coming years.
Elsewhere at the festival there are new confirmations on The Big Cheese Cave: On Saturday 14th July, you can catch British mathcore band Rolo Tomassi, hardcore punks Feed The Rhino, London based hardcore/metal crossover band TRC; While on Friday 13th July post-hardcore rockers Lost Alone will take to the stage.
The Vive Le Rock Stage sees the one and only Glitter Band performing on Saturday 14th July, with all-female rockers The Priscillas, and original 1970’s mod revival group The Chords both appearing on Sunday 15th July.
The Kane FM presents Funky End Dance tent sees two great new acts confirmed for Saturday 14th July – Young Brighton based UK producer Dismantle and dubstep trio Millions Like Us.
Lastly, the hilarious comedy spoof act Take Fat will be hitting The Main Stage on Saturday 14th July. Gary Lardo, Jason Chocolate Orange, Howard McDonalds, Mark Growin and Blobbie Williams will be performing their special medley of Take That songs; A stunning live show, faithfully reproducing hit after hit, like you’ve never see before – complete with “phat” dance routines and spectacular visuals.
These fantastic new confirmations join a hugely eclectic line up you simply won’t find anywhere else, including Olly Murs, Bryan Ferry, Jools Holland & His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra feat. Roland Gift, Tulisa, Jimmy Cliff, Gary Numan, Candi Staton, Cher Lloyd, Tim Minchin, Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, The Straits, Buzzcocks, The Undertones, Nouvelle Vague, Skindred, Beth Hart, Young Guns, The Wurzels, Ash, ABC, The South, Heaven 17, The Beat, Republica, Andy C, Benga, Sub Focus (DJ set), Kids In Glass Houses, StooShe, The Skints, TV Smith, DragSTER, The Ramonas, Tyrannosaurus Alan, Yashin, New Town Kings, The Sex Pistols Experience, Stone Foundation, Rubber Bandits, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, John Spillane, Friction, Subscape, Sigma, Brookes Brothers, Pyramid, Polar, and Crowns.
Don’t forget there is still plenty more to be announced for the festival this year, but GuilFest is about so much more than just music! With an amazing comedy line up in the eFestivals Cosmic Comedy Lounge, featuring Jarred Christmas, Mitch Benn and Simon Evans amongst scores of others; the brilliant Man in the Moon Theatre tent, with its biggest lineup to date of everything from Cabaret to Shakespeare – as well as brilliant attractions such as The GuilFest Vintage Fayre, The Acoustic Lounge, La Discotheque, Farmer Giles Barndance, The Eden People’s GuilFest Gallery, The Plantation Zone, and the KidZone. As usual you can also find a great arts and crafts village, massive 150ft Beer tent serving GuilFest Ale, Cocktail bars, Street Performers, delicious food from around the world, spacious camping and plenty more designed to appeal to the whole family.
