Hawkwind return with their new album, less than two years since their last one ‘Blood Of The Earth’. Dave Brock still steers the good(space)ship Hawkwind along with Tim Blake, Richard Chadwick, Mr Dibs and Niall Hone.
This is a two disc affair, although the second disc contains some older reworked tunes like ‘Aerospace Age’. The band have their sound and they pretty much stick to it, although the reworking of ‘Death Trap’ has an almost punk air to it. Huw Lloyd-Langton returns to guest on ‘The Hills Have Ears’, a classic piece of space rock.
They have their finger on the pulse as ‘Computer Cowards’ takes a dig at online trolls and the way they cowardly make life hell for other online users. In ‘Right To Decide’ they have a hit single, if they ever decided to have another one! It is has an instant chorus and again takes up arms this time for the right to make your own mind up.
It can be hard going and downright weird at times (‘System Check’) but for a band who have been around over for over forty years now they still entertain and keep you thinking. They have certainly grown on me over the years!
