Nik Kershaw returns with his new album, as the title suggests his eighth, ahead of a UK tour in September. Many will remember him for his haircuts and hits in the 80′s including ‘Wouldn’t It Be Good’. Like Kate Bush, Nik Kershaw was liked by rock fans in the 80′s despite his pop rock leanings and even Kerrang! reviewed his albums.
This is a wonderful album full of little gems, from the catchy single ‘The Sky’s The Limit’ through to the tongue in cheek ‘Shoot Me’, another single if ever there was one. The ballad ‘Red Strand’ has a folk feel, helped by the fiddle playing of ex-Fairport Convention member Ric Sanders. Another guest is 90′s pop idol Chesney Hawkes!
‘Bad Day You’re Having’ features a wonderful chorus and the heavy opener ‘These Tears’ is high quality pop rock, showing that Nik Kershaw has lost none of his vocal prowess.
An artist who knows what music makes him happy and luckily his fans think the same way too. Unlike some fellow 80′s artists who are happy to recycle old hits, Nik Kershaw still makes good new music and if you enjoy pop rock grab this pronto.
