IMPERA – Legacy Of Life

Escape Music

Formed around drummer JK Impera (Bruce Kulick/Graham Bonnet/John Corabi) he is joined by guitarist Tommy Denander (who has played on hundreds of albums including Toto, Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley) and vocalist Matti Alfonzetti (once of Jagged Edge and now in Red, White & Blues). Bassist Matts Vassfjord (Grand Design) rounds out the line-up.

One thing they don’t use is keyboards (boo!) but instead Tommy Denander adds in lots of solos and riffs to make sure you don’t miss them. The songs are all heavy heard rockers – no ballads which is a shame as it means the album lacks a little variety. Listening to say ‘Kiss Of Death’ or the fats paced ‘Shoot Me Down’ the band really reminded me of Mr Big, less the heavier bass/bass solos that Billy Sheenan lays down.

You do need a few plays to get into this album and it is not quite as good as I was expecting given the musicians involved, still worth a listen given the quality of the musicians involved in the music.
