PETER FRAMPTON – Comes Alive 35 – An Evening With Peter Frampton

(2DVD) Eagle Vision

2011 saw Peter Frampton resurrect his legendary Comes Alive album (8 * Platinum in the USA, one of the biggest selling live albums ever), on its 35th anniversary, and a series of shows were very well received.  I saw the show at Hammersmith and can testify what a good evening it was.

This DVD was recorded ever 2 shows in the US and documents the show extremely well.

The shows were split into two halves with a short interval, the first half, on disc 1 here, is the original 1976 show (as originally performed, before editing for the live release), and brings back many a happy memory. Something’s Happening and Doobie Wah both rock and stand out, while Show Me The Way and It’s A Plain Shame are both classics. Lines On My Face and Wind Of Change are good but drift by in comparison. Frampton is clearly enjoying himself and provides a decent solo or two, and his acoustic work on Penny For Your Thoughts is good too. He enjoys some banter with the crowd too; “We’re now officially onto side two of the vinyl” gets a cheer. There’s also the backdrop slide show of album covers and period band photos.

Baby I Love Your Way and Do You Feel Like We Do epitomise how lovely the shows were, and when Frampton wants to really rock out he can still do it.

Disc 2 features the second part of the show, where the band play material from Frampton’s more recent material; (my orig live review did express disappointment at lack of material from the late 70s to mid 80s), but it’s all good, mixing rock with, at times, a Floyd like sound.  There’s also a guest appearance from Frampton’s son on vocals. The show closed with While My Guitar Gently Weeps done very well.

With a bonus feature and booklet – all in pretty damn good.
