RIFF RAFF – Leaving D.C.

Yes as the band’s name implies they are a former AC/DC tribute band hailing from Berlin who have now decided to write and record their own music. The singer Steve Betteridge (an Englishman now living in Germany) has a decent, raspy voice and the music mixes in AC/DC obviously, plus hints of the Cult (especially on ‘Good Times…Bad Times’) and the Moody/Marsden ear Whitesnake.

It’s simple enough music but then this is meant to be no frills rock ‘n’ roll with ‘Rev Up…Ride On’ like ZZ Top (in the vocals) meets AC/DC with an big, memorable chorus. They can slow the mood as ‘Liar’ shows and the longer ‘Miracle Man’ allows the band to flex their musical muscles with some neat soloing. ‘We’re Only Here For The Beer’ reminded me of American Dog, in fact these tow bands with say Motorhead headlining!

An enjoyable album and of definite interest to AC/DC fans and I would imagine a damn fine live band.
