CIRCLE II CIRCLE – Seasons Will Fall

earMUSIC ( release date – 25.01.13)

Circle II Circle have been around for a number of years now and this latest release is album number six from the guys. Main man in the band is vocalist Zak Stevens who fronted Savatage during their peak period in the 90’s.

Classic hard rock is what is on the menu here and things start well with opening track ‘Diamond Blade’, a mid paced, guitar driven track with decent vocals. This is followed by ‘ Without A Sound’ which is another  mid paced, guitar driven track with decent vocals. Up next we are treated to ‘Killing death’ a full techno work out, oh no wait a minute it is actually a mid paced, guitar driven track with decent vocals.

See where I am going here, Circle II Circle are not a bad band but their tracks all follow a very similar pattern which very quickly gets a bit boring. There is little change in pace or key , one song blends into another, the only indication you have of progression is the track numbers changing on the CD player display.

The guys have talent, there is some great guitar work throughout and Zak puts in a solid performance, but it all lacks variety and ends up ploughing a very straight furrow when it could be so much more.

Since this is album number 6 the guys obviously already have a dedicated following who will no doubt thoroughly enjoy this release and as I state overall it is not a bad album. I though, found its lack of variety a turn off and won’t be rushing back for repeated plays.
