BELASCO – Transmuting

Maybe Records

Belasco release their latest album some six years after their last one and they have the legendary Tom Allom (Black Sabbath/Judas Priest) mixing the album. The band have certainly built up a following since starting in 2000.

The album mixes big production anthems like the single ‘Moves Like Waves’ with the more indie rock of say ‘Poor Man’ and ‘Who Do You Love’, both of sounds a lot like the Tragically Hip meets R.E.M. in their IRS years. Bizarrely for a UK band they sound more American, and they have a knack of  making even their quieter moments like ‘Eyes’ sound like they have a big band playing rather than the three piece they are.

Interesting album, would appeal to fans of the aforementioned bands and the Smashing Pumpkins.
