Album review: THE SUPER HAPPY FUN CLUB – All Funned Up

Throop Records (released August 5th) www.thesuperhappyfunclub.com

This is the band’s second album and made after some difficult personal times for the band members. The album is full of mostly upbeat guitars and seriously addictive choruses and harmony vocals. ‘Move On’ is simply immense, from the guitar riff through to the instant candy fix chorus. Basically any song on here could be released as a single or make airplay, with ‘Enemy’ and ‘Way Back (The Conflict)’ the pick of the bunch, along with the aforementioned ‘Move On’.

They can mix it up though as ‘Angels Cry’ is a nicely done ballad with the piano taking over the usual guitar parts. It’s sentiment maybe a little overly syrupy but it still works well.

Amazingly they cram all these good tunes into just under 33 minutes and this is a perfect ‘lift me up’ album, especially for fans of Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Sum 41 and Waltham.

They tour the UK as support to Madina Lake’s farewell tour during September and October and based on this album well worth catching live.
