Album review: D-A-D – Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark

D-A-D - Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark

AFM Records (Deluxe Edition) [Release date 25.03.13]

Following the original 2011 release of “Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark” D-A-D enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence, with the Danish band playing further afield then they had done for some years. The band’s 11th studio album in a career that reaches back to 1982, the original release included such highlights as ‘I Want What She’s Got’, ‘Drag Me To The Curb’, ‘Breaking Them Heart By Heart’, ‘The End’ and ‘The Place of My Heart’.

What makes the new Deluxe Edition of ‘Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark’ are the 16 bonus live and acoustic tracks. Starting with an acoustic, and almost haunting, rendition of the album’s lead single ‘I Want What She’s Got’- there are also great acoustic versions of ‘The End’, ‘The Place In My Heart’ and ‘A New Age Moving In’. Then we come to the bombastic live versions of the latter track and old band favourite ‘Jihad’.

Of the live tracks ‘Monster Philosophy’, ‘Everything Glows’ and ‘I Want What She’s Got’ are all superb, add this to D-A-D live classics like ‘Riding With Sue’ and ‘God’s Favourite’ and you soon understand what makes the band such a fan favourite and one of the most underrated live acts around.  *****
