Album review: FOZZY – Do You Wanna Start A War

FOZZY – Do You Wanna Start A War

Century Media [Released 21.07.14]

Amazingly Fozzy have been going nearly fifteen years and this album is possibly their most commercial and accessible to date. Now that vocalist Chris Jericho is winding down his wrestling career the band are touring (the band are regular visitors here in the UK) and recording more regularly.

There are some cracking riff led songs on here, like the lead song ‘Lights Go Out’ where Fozzy mix electronic backing with a big Rich Ward guitar riff. ‘Died With You’ will appeal to those who like bands like Shinedown, as the swooping musical moods sweep the listener in.

‘Unstoppable’ features a female guest vocalist (not sure who!) and again is the more accessible hard rock end of the band’s music. Those after the more metal end of the band’s music ‘Brides Of Fire’ will do the job, complete with growl vocals.

Then we have ‘Tonight’, quite possibly their best song to date in my book and if Fozzy jammed with Def Leppard this is what you’d get. This is the sort of song to crank up loud, crack out your beers (or tea and ginger biscuits if you prefer!) and enjoy. Along with ‘The Test’, this is now my favourite song from this band.

Then we have a little curveball…the band like their covers and they have recorded a great version of the Abba classic ‘SOS’. They keep the piano riff in and the guitar riff is enough to make it rock, but not so loud to scare off crossover fans that this song will be aimed at.

This is definitely their most commercial album to date and it will please existing fans, along with hopefully picking up more new fans.  Great fun to listen to from start to finish.  ****
