Album review: JADED HEART – Fight The System

Fast Ball [Released 26.09.14]

Jaded Heart deserve a medal for soldiering on over twenty years despite numerous line-up and record label changes. This album sees the recording debut of drummer Bodo Stricker, who replaces co-founding member Axel Kruse (although he is credited with ‘additional drums’). This leaves bassist Michael ‘Muelli’ Muller as the sole remaining original member. Also live guitarist Masa Eto joins the band full time.

Not a band I have particularly paid that much attention to before, however this album is a rather good blast of melodic hard rock. Opener ‘Schizophrenic’ is a song of two sides, from a keys intro lulling you in before a riff filled song and chorus.

‘Terror In Me’ is a riff-tastic ride featuring tasty guitar solo trade offs between Peter Ostros and Masa Eto. Reminds you of Judas Priest in the guitars and vocal histrionics of Johan Fahlberg. ‘Control’ is another highlight and Masterplan vocalist Rick Altzi guests on this one, with a suitably splendid vocal performance.

Not a ballad in sight! If you like the heavier end of melodic hard rock like Pretty Maids and Pink Cream 69 this album will be right up your street. ***1/2
