Get Ready to ROCK! Radio
Part 1, Sunday 26 July, 16:00 GMT
Part 2, Sunday 2 August, 16:00 GMT

In the first of a two-part special rock writing royalty Russ Ballard chats to Get Ready to ROCK! Radio’s David Randall.

Russ has recently released a new album – ‘It’s Good To Be Here’ – via umumusic.com.  Most recently – in 2010 – he joined the reformed Argent to play the High Voltage festival and the band embarked on a short tour in early-2012.

A member of Adam Faith’s backing band – The Roulettes – in the 1960s he hitched up with Rod Argent in 1969 and, together with Roulettes drummer Bob Henrit and Jim Rodford, as Argent he had great success in the early-1970s.  The band scored a major hit in 1972 ‘Hold Your Head Up’ whilst his compositions ‘Liar’ and ‘God Gave Rock And Roll To You became massive hits for Three Dog Night and Kiss respectively.

Russ left Argent in 1974 and followed a solo career with a string of albums 1974-8 whilst still supplying songs for other artists into the 1980s, including the two ABBA singers Agnetha and Frida.

In this special feature, he chats about his career, songwriting and solo work.

Part 2 is broadcast on Sunday 2 August, 16:00 GMT.
