DVD review: LENNY KRAVITZ – Just Let Go

LENNY KRAVITZ - Just Let Go

Eagle Vision [Release date 23.10.15]

Lenny Kravitz has kind of disappeared off of my radar over the last few years, however, new DVD “Let It Go” – filmed in Paris on the European leg of his 2014 tour in support of recent album “Strut”- may have just changed that.

Kravitz puts on one hell of a show and has assembled a great backing band to deliver a fine mix of rock, funk and soul- this show has the lot!! The DVD has been intercut with interviews, rehearsal footage and a candid insight into the show itself. The sound has been superbly mixed by Bob Clearmountain, who has also done a brilliant job on the recent Rolling Stones “From The Vaults” series.

Throughout the main 12 song set there is not a weak moment and it is hard to pick out highlights here, although the filth dripping version of “American Woman”, the almost disco feeling “The Chamber”, the awesome “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, “Dig In” and the giant love fest that is “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” are all worth a mention.

The bonus tracks are also as good as the main set and include another worthy version of “Let Love Rule” and a jaw dropping “Always On The Run” (why wasn’t this in the main feature?!!).
Lenny Kravitz is one of those artists that can transcend genres and as such should be right back on your radar.  *****
