Album review: BAI BANG – Rock Of Life

BAI BANG - Rock Of Life

AOR Heaven [Release date 28.04.17]

Bai Bang have been around since the late 80′s, weathering the grunge storm that saw off a lot of glam metal/hard rock bands and the one constant has been vocalist Diddi Kastenholt. On this album there has been another line-up change with bassist Christopher Svensson joining guitarist Jens Lundgren and drummer Oskar Wennberg, along with the aforementioned Katenholt.

I don’t know what they put in the water in Sweden but they produce so many bands who seem to write catchy hook filled tunes with ease. Bai Bang are no exception and are like the Poodles, with a little less metal in the overall sound.

The title track bursts out of life from your speakers and you can’t help but rock along with an air guitar solo midway through for the listener. With the likes of Wig Wam sadly no more, Bai Bang can fill that gap with monster hard rock tunes like ‘Hey Hey You’ and ‘Gonna Rock You’ – although that song may borrow a few lines from Joan Jett’s ‘I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll’!

Nothing earth shattering lyrically but then this sort of music is all about fun and memorable tunes. They do take their foot of the musical gas with the acoustic ‘Only The Best Die Young’.

Bai Bang know what they and their fans want musically and they have delivered one of their strongest albums to date. Everybody needs a little Bai Bang now and then to put a smile on your face.  ***1/2
