EP review: YOUNG STATES – Past Truths Present Lies

YOUNG STATES - Past Truths Present Lies

[Release date 29.09.17]

Young States formed in 2014 and are a four piece hailing from Norwich consisting of Georgia Leeder (Vocals/Bass), Libby Irons (Guitar/Vocals), Amy Jeffery (Guitar) and Molly Draba-Mann (Drums). They have released one EP prior to this one and that gained them good reviews and airplay with Kerrang! and Scuzz.

You can see after listening to the five songs on here why they are creating a buzz. Impassioned vocals from Georgia Leeder, lyrics to sit and analyse on repeated plays and a decent ear for melody. If there is one drawback a couple of the songs seem ready to launch into a rousing chorus, then seem to step down in pace.

Pick of this five song EP are ‘Over It By Now’, driven by a distorted guitar and big, fat drum sound. Also ’29′, where again the vocals are cleverly backed by the guitar and drumming of Molly Draba-Mann.

In the Kerrang! and Rock Sound circles Young States are assured of more recognition and success with this EP. ***1/2
