Album review: TNT – XIII

Frontiers [Release date 08.06.18]

With vocalist Tony Harnell leaving TNT again last year, TNT’s latest album ‘XIII’ sees a new vocalist join the band, Baol Bardot Bulsara. Bassist Ove Husemoen is a relative newcomer as well having joined the band in 2016, joining main man guitarist Ronni Le Tekro and drummer Diesel Dahl.

Although Tony Harnell no longer features in the band’s line-up he is co-writer on half of the songs on here, plus he sings backing vocals on one song. Maybe the next album will see new vocalist Baol contribute to the song writing? Speaking of Boal Bardot Bulsara he has the high vocal range of Tony Harnell and certainly makes a good account of himself throughout the course of the album.

Now for the songs, there are some clunkers like ‘Not Feeling Anything’ which does what it says on the tin sadly or ‘Get Ready For Some Hard Rock’. However, ‘Where You Belong’ is a piece of Queen like pomp allowing Boal to show off his vocals. Ronni Le Tekro also unleashes a stylish guitar solo. They do hit the target on the gentle melodic rock of ‘Can’t Breathe Anymore’ (the song that sees Tony Harnell appear on backing vocals) – more Queen influences in the guitar sound on this one, particularly the guitar ‘choir’ effects.

TNT seem content live wise to keep to their native Norway, with the odd venture outside and whilst ‘XIII’ isn’t a bad album, it is unlikely to win them any new fans, even some diehards may not be overly taken by majority of the album. ***
