Album review: THIRSTY – Nomad

Facebook page [Release date 31.08.18]

The third release from Thirsty is, at six tracks, more of a mini album, however, it is big on impact. “Nomad” is one of those albums that I can just leave on in the background, or turn up and immerse myself in.

I have been looking forward to hearing this record and it follows on nicely from its two predecessors, easy going, with a great groove and well written songs, all delivered in a very Keith Richards style. Guy Bailey’s vocals compliment his guitar work and are perfect for the style of songs that the band creates.

Produced by Chris Kimsey, who worked on the two earlier albums, “Nomad” feels earthier to me, more laid back and with a subtle dark edge to it. “Green Grass” has an almost smoky, late night/early morning feel to it, whilst opening track “Mercury Rising” has a certain swagger to it that you just don’t get with newer bands. There is also a remix of the title track of the last Thirsty album “Albatross” and the great easy feel of “Even Keel”.

Lyricist Irina D sings lead on “Solar” and in her narrative style it feels like she is telling you something you really need to hear. “Small Talk” has a slight country lilt to it, set over another easy going and laid back musical canvas, the keyboards and piano here working really effectively alongside the guitar.

The band has kept the same line up throughout all three releases and this shows in the way that they gel together so well. “Nomad” is being released on digital and vinyl and I for one will be heading straight for the vinyl version. ****
