Album review: AARON BUCHANAN & THE CULT CLASSICS – The Man With Stars On His Knees

Pete Feenstra chatted to Aaron Buchanan for Get Ready to ROCK! Radio in February 2019.  This hour special discusses his music with tracks from the album ‘The Man With Stars On His Knees’

AARON BUCHANAN & THE CULT CLASSICS - The Man With Stars On His Knees

(Special Edition) Listenable Records [Release date 22.02.19]

Former Heavens Basement frontman Aaron Buchanan formed The Cult Classics in 2016 and has just re-issued his 2018 debut album, “The Man With Stars On His Knees” as a special edition, the album now including a couple of extra tracks, and a couple of new brand members.

Buchanan has the Freddie Mercury feel at times, you’ll no doubt read this a lot now following the success of the recent film, but just go and see his live show and you will see what I mean, until then listen to “Fire In The Fields of Mayhem”. The album will also appeal to fans of the Foo Fighters, and there are also moments of Alice In Chains and even Scott Weiland influences here.

The album opens with the dirge intro of “Show Me What You’re Made Of” but then opens up to become a very listenable record (sorry, I just could not resist that pun). Another outstanding track is “Dancin’ Down Below” against which I have written just one word, and that is guitar.

Other recommended tracks on the album are “All The Things You’ve Said And Done”, “Undertow”, “Mind of A Mute” and “Left Me For Dead”, and of the twelve tracks on offer there were just a couple that didn’t really grow on me.

“The Man With Stars On His Knees” is a good album and the band’s live show comes highly recommended. ****
