Single review: KING OF THE DEAD – Destroy My Name

KING OF THE DEAD – Destroy My Name

Independent [Release date 08.01.21]

The first few bars of interplay between rhythm and lead guitar  from King Of The Dead could be Status Quo, but once the vocals are launched we’re back in NWOBHM territory. Pacey, piercing, high pitched, they wring maximum emotion out of the lyrics, relaxing a little when the raucous verse smooths out through some satisfyingly cool chord shifts. It’s at this point we sit up and take notice.

The PR says punk. Maybe they mean energetic. When King Of The Dead hit the melodic bridge and gritty chorus they could be a yet to be polished up Filter, or Stabbing Westward when they were edgy.

Good band, songwriting is strong, they have a future, especially if they ditch the nihilistic metal conceit. And if it’s self produced they’ve got studio talent to burn, even if they never make it.
