10 Q's with CLIVE EDWARDS (X-UFO)
Clive Edwards has drummed for many bands including UFO which has led to X-UFO...
1. What are you currently up to?
Just about to get back out on the road and hopefully find so time to write a few new tunes for the summer.
2. How did the idea for X-UFO come about? Any plans to
invite other fellow UFO members on stage in the future?
Well I had a call one night from Danny who
said “Am I mad or does the idea of doing an X-UFO band seen like a blast?” …
to which I said I loved the idea and was only talking to Rocky Newton recently
who had said the exact same thing (only it was MFO or UFG !!) … anyway it
just shows that it was an uncanny aligning of the stars that we all kinda had
similar thoughts at the same time… yes we would love to get a few more old
boys up for a blast… in fact Pete Way will be our special guest at the
Grimsby gig in Feb!!!
3. How did the recent UK live dates go?
… they have gone
very well, the audiences love to hear our versions of the songs… how can you
not have fun playing all those fantastic songs, it’s what makes us do it
4. Which eras of UFO do the band cover and which songs the
band especially look forward to playing live?
… well we cover the eras that
we all played on really, especially Heavy Petting and HSDM albums, we then wrap
it up with some classics Rock Bottom etc that we recorded on the Lights out in
Tokyo album in the early 90s … I can honestly say there are too many numbers
to pick one out… we just look forward to playing them all on stage… don’t
get better than that!!!
5. Is there any chance the band will record new music
together?
…There is every chance we will record new material, we were all
heavily involved in writing when we were in the respective bands and it’s what
we do… so look out for some new X-UFO material; soon.
6. Has the internet helped you get your music out there or
has it in some ways hindered it by websites offering free downloads? Do you
still rely heavily on CD sales as opposed to downloads?
…Well you can’t
un-invent the internet so we will take it as it comes, we do hope if we put a
good package together with CD/T-Shirt/Poster people will still see it as good
way to support the band.
7. What have been the live highlights so far and why?
…
Getting to play in Europe almost immediately was a highlight for me, but to be
honest just getting it up and running so fast was brilliant… so far we have
worked hard, but it’s never been hard work… so long may it continue.
8. Any good rock ‘n’ roll tales to tell…
… too many mate…
and I’m saving them for the book!!! … but there is the one when Phil, Pete
and Ozzy went to the….
9. What do you enjoy doing in your time away from music?
… Being a family man really… I do spend lots of time going to watch Rugby
(training and games) as my son plays second row for London Irish U18s
10. Anything else to add and a message for your fans…
Keep
supporting your local Rock venues and bands… with that support we are
strong… and without it the venues close and bands can't progress… it’s a
shame that the number of live gigs has fallen over the years… So Keep it Live
and Keep it Rocking… X-UFO RULE !!!
