GEORGE GAKIS – Too Much Ain’t Enough
Perris Records 2012
George Gakis has been releasing albums since 1989 and toured and supported many artists in his native Greece including Whitesnake, Glenn Hughes, Dokken et al. On this latest album he has a few top name guests including Joe Lynn Turner and fellow ex-Rainbow members Bobby Rondinelli and Greg Smith.
George Gakis has that bluesy vocal similar to David Coverdale in his prime, in fact ‘Fame’ is very much like Whitesnake’s ‘Judgement Day’. Joe Lynn Turner pops-up on ‘Street Of Broken Dreams’ where both vocalist complement each other well. Okay the title and sound is a big tip of the hat to Rainbow but then that’s no bad thing. ‘Days Of Rock ‘N’ Roll’ is a good time melodic rocker and the album’s curveball comes in the shape of the traditional Greek song ‘Mi Me Kitas’. A nice diversion and fitting end to the album.
An enjoyable slice of melodic hard rock, that may be a tad cliched at times but sung by a very talented vocalist who would do well fronting a band.
