Steve Winwood’s ‘Arc Of A Diver’ re-issued in October

Universal Music Catalogue is proud to announce the release of the Deluxe Edition of Steve Winwood’s Arc Of A Diver. This 2-CD set comprises the original album plus a second CD featuring bonus tracks and a full length audio documentary.

Originally released in 1980, Arc Of A Diver is the second solo album recorded by Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith), with all parts performed entirely by Winwood himself.

Featuring Winwood’s first solo hit, While You See A Chance, which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.A., this was his breakthrough album as a solo artist, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The bonus disc of this deluxe set features three extra tracks: Arc Of A Diver (the edited U.S. single version), Spanish Dancer (radio edit 2010 version) and Night Train (instrumental from the UK 12” single, which has never been released on CD before and featuring extra guitar and keyboards).

It also opens with the BBC Radio 2 documentary, Arc Of A Diver, The Steve Winwood Story. Here, Kate Thornton tells the story of the great songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and performer who has been a key figure in pop music for over forty years. Immersed in jazz, skiffle and then rhythm and blues, Steve was brought up in Birmingham where, along with his brother Muff, Pete York and Spencer Davis, he formed the group that was to have such seminal hits as Keep On Running and Gimme Some Lovin’. In 1967 he went on to join Traffic, one of the most creative and enduring groups of the 1960s and 70s and, when Traffic eventually broke up, Steve played sessions with almost everyone in pop and rock. His first solo album was released in 1977 and with singles like Valerie and Higher Love he quickly established himself as a kind of elder statesman of rock.

The Radio 2 programme also includes contributions from Pete York, Muff Winwood, Van Morrison, Will Jennings, Walfredo Reyes Jnr., Jose Neto, Chris Welch, Jim Capaldi, Klaus Schulze, Russ Titelman, Tom Lord Alge, Nile Rogers and Steve Winwood himself.

This deluxe edition includes liner notes by respected music journalist and TV presenter, David Hepworth. He describes Arc Of A Diver’s importance thus:

Steve Winwood never for a moment imagined his love of music would turn into such a long career, that he would still be recording and touring nearly fifty years later. Arc Of A Diver is the record that made that not so much a possibility as a certainty.”
