Docker’s Guild is the solo effort of Douglas R. Docker, with “The Mystic Technocracy” being an opera which unfolds over five seasons…
While this is touted as one of the progressive albums of the year, with a number of well-known guests to bolster the release, I found it to be unlistenable, with bland songs and the overbearing screech of keyboards overwhelming anything good on this release.
I’m sad to say it was a harrowing experience listening to this. Listen before you buy.

Well I have a different take on this album :) As the main composer is a keyboards player the album is awash with keys – no bad thing in my book! There are some top name vocalists involved including TNT’s Tony Mills, Goran Edman and John Payne (Asia) plus Tony Franklin, Greg Bisonette and former Night Ranger guitarist Jeff Watson all lend a hand.
It is a sci-fi concept album and that means a lot of space style synths – many instrumental passages bring to mind Vangelis or Gregg Guiffria in his more pomp moments. Tony Mills hits his stride on ‘The Secret Of DNA’ /’Purple Orb’ with keys aplenty and harmony vocals reminding me of ’90125′ era Yes. Asia fans will simply love ‘Loving The Alien’ where John Payne guests and makes it sound like a Payne-era Asia tune. Guthrie Govan, the guitarist from the the John Payne era pops up on this one as well. It doesn’t all work though as the spoken word parts on a few songs don’t stand up to repeated plays.
A good start and looking forward to part two already. If you like mid-80′s Yes, Asia and a good dose of keyboards this will be right up your street.
