DOKKEN – Broken Bones

Rumoured to be the last album under the band name Dokken, new album “Broken Bones” is somewhat of a triumphant fanfare that rolls back the years. Featuring only Don Dokken and drummer Mick Brown from the original line up, this record features Jon Levin on guitar and Sean McNabb on bass, both of whom are an ideal fit for the band.

Opening track “Empire” features some great guitar work, as does “Fade Away”, the best vocals on the album however come courtesy of “Waterfall” and the aptly titled “For The Last Time”. “Victim of the Crime” is a big slow rhythmic affair that has a slight Eastern feel to it whilst “Today” has some nice acoustic guitar complementing another solid vocal performance from Mr Dokken.

Considering Don Dokken recovered from throat surgery last year, his voice is still in great shape- on the track “Burning Tears” a great opening is followed by a vocal that, at times, feels like it could easily push into Bruce Dickinson territory. “Best of Me” is a slow burning, guitar fuelled future live favourite and closing track “Tonight” has a definite feel of “leave them wanting more”.

“Broken Bones” is a great Dokken record in every sense and it would be a shame if this band energy was not harnessed into more recording and touring.
