TRI MEBIUS – Blind Materials

Re-Strophe Records (Release Date – Out now)

Japanese rockers Tri Mebius clearly have a sense of humour. What they appear to have done on this album is record a passable early 80’s heavy metal/ thrash soundtrack, popped to their nearest karaoke bar in downtown Osaka, picked a random girl in the crowd and asked her to ‘sing’ along with the 10 tracks without her hearing them first.

The results of this are as bad as you could imagine. Musically the band are ok with some good guitar work and decent heavy riffs, but the vocals are the main feature. Singer, I use the term loosely, Nao sounds as if she was being played a different backing track in the studio, either that or the engineer got the tracks confused at the mixing stage. The result is an assault on the senses which reaches its peak on the track ‘Attack Your Hearts’, attacks your ears more like.

I thought maybe I was missing something, so luckily the band also included their new single ‘Promised Sense’, unfortunately it proved to be more of the same with the vocals pushed to the fore in the final mix just for the full effect.

May I suggest guys that your next release should be an instrumental record !

** (purely for the musical backing)
