This is the 4th album from Swedish industrial metallers Avatar and a release that they hope will propel them to new heights. The band blend industrial metal with full on, near death metal riffage at times, the song ‘Ready For The Ride’ is a good example of this with furious guitar work and gruff vocals courtesy of frontman Johannes Eckerstrom. Looking at the band pictures it would appear that Eckerstrom is a bit of a character and their live shows are a bit of an event by all accounts
One song on the album, ‘Let It Burn’, was reportedly one of the most played rock tracks on U.S radio earlier in the year and sounds like a mix of System Of A Down, Rammstein and Pantera, but ultimately falls short of all three. There are some decent moments on the album, the song ‘Smells Like A Freak Show’ for example, but overall it wasn’t for me. I could see the band doing well though as there is a big market for the music they are producing.
An album then I can appreciate for what it is but not one I will be rushing back to.
