Martin Harley is set to release this, his fifth album, in February and he is a very talented slide guitar player who has been heavily influenced by Ry Cooder. In fact listening to songs like ‘Rum Shack’ (superb guitar solo on this one) and ‘Outlaw’ could have been lifted from Ry Cooder’s work.
Elsewhere we have the swing/big band feel on ‘Wrecking Ball’ and the addition of violin really helps this song go with a swing. There are some good, dirty blues songs like ‘Working For The Man’ and the title track which reminded me of fellow modern blues man Jon Amor.
Modern blues, great slide playing and musical variety, what’s not to like?
