Album review: SNAKEROOT – Downtown To Ghetto

Formed back in 2008 in Istanbul Snakeroot have released this, their debut album digitally and after playing this one for a few times I am surprised a label hasn’t picked them up. They quote lots of musical influences, although overall they have a melodic hard rock sound that has wide appeal, none more so than ‘Generation Lost’ which has an insanely catchy chorus and a nice guitar solo. Like Motley Crue and Poison teamed up with Cheap Trick! ‘Another Day Without End’ mixes 80′s hard rock with a little rap, not unlike say Crown Of Thorns.

After the insipid corporate cack rock Bon Jovi have served up lately Snakeroot show them how to pen a decent ballad on ‘Sleepless Nights’. ‘Roses Whisper Your Name’ is another Bon Jovi meets Alice Cooper circa ‘Poison’. This band have a great knack of penning memorable choruses and there are plenty of tasty guitar solos throughout the album.

Check them out via their Facebook page or on Reverbnation if you fancy some well played and enjoyable melodic hard rock that successfully captures the classic 80′s sound and adds in a modern touch.
