Self Release (Release date – out now)
This is the latest album by Cornish three piece Even Nine and it is a bouncy, uplifting affair. The band consists of brothers Jody and Rick Martin who along with drummer Brett Stepto create some fine melodic rock.
Listening to the album I was reminded of the Gin Blossoms’ album ‘New Miserable Experience’ which I listened to extensively in my younger days. The band have crafted some fine melodic rock tracks that are all delivered in first class style.
Lead track from the album, ‘Brakes’, is a good example of what the guys are capable of, a fine slab of prime rock with a great chorus complete with fine drumming from Brett. The whole album is of the same high standard with plenty of stand out tracks from the fast paced ‘ Electricity’ to the stripped back acoustic number ‘Nothing Will Be The Same Again’ the talent of the trio shines through. The disc rounds off in fine style with the band in epic rock mode with ‘Walls’ which has a big sound, an impressive guitar solo and is a great way to close a great album.
This is a fantastic release and one the guys can be rightly proud of. The aforementioned Gin Blossoms album went 4x platinum back in the day and I would say this record is on a par, all it needs is a lucky break. Have a listen and tell your friends. ****
