Album review: NIGHTGLOW – We Rise

Logic(il)logic records (Release date – Out now)

Nightglow formed back in 2003 in Italy and have been rocking hard ever since. The band are unashamedly metal to the core and at one point were the official Manowar tribute act across Italy.

When not wearing furry nappies, the guys have found time to pen eight classic metal tracks for our delectation and good they are too. Things get off to a strange start with an intro of a gentleman either terrified by something or pleasuring himself, we will assume it is the former. This leads into title track ‘We Rise’ which gallops along nicely with a thrashy edge. ‘Time Lord’ is next up with the TARDIS taking us back to the early 80’s for more metal mayhem, Maiden meeting Metallica head on in a dark alley.

The top track for me was up next, ‘Between Heaven And Hell’ is a fantastic power metal romp with a huge riff in the mid-section and a huge chorus to go with it. The guys in the band know their way around their chosen instruments with some fine playing across all tracks. Vocalist Daniele Abate has a great metal voice alternating from a deep, strong vocal to a piercing scream with ease.

The eight tracks here are great metal nuggets, they may not be the most original band in the world but they are a damn fine one. I am also certain they will play on ten!
