Self Release (Release date – Out now )
Spring The Trap hail from the Grunge capital, Seattle, but they have chosen to go down an altogether heavier route. The guys play a hard rock with a technical edge and over the course of the six tracks on the EP there is a lot to like.
They kick off in hard and heavy fashion with ‘Lucid’ which has an almost nu-metal sound. That is followed by ‘Brainstorm’ which has a heavy, driving mid section with the rhythm section of Brad Stirling on bass and Justin Richison on drums putting in a great performance. Next track up ‘The Maze’ is well named as it twists and turns and you are never sure where it is leading next.
‘In An Instant’ follows which is a short intro track into ‘Gone’ which has a bit of an Alice In Chains vibe but turned up to 12.That just leaves ‘Faceless’ to round things off in frantic fashion with the twin guitars of Leif Rowberg and Mike Klepper taking a beating whilst Roland Ashton gives a soaring vocal performance.
A fine debut EP then from a band with a lot of promise and the skills to break into the major league, with a bit of luck.
