With fifth album “Tour De Force” The Poodles have come up with another quality slab of polished, melodic Euro rock. From the album’s ultimate highlight “Kings &Fools” to bonus track “En För Alla För En” (an almost Eurovision friendly pop like track sung in their native Swedish) via ballad “Leaving The Past To Pass” and the lightweight “40 Days & 40 Nights”, “Tour De Force” takes the band’s influences and stretches them further then they have on previous albums thereby creating a comfortable feeling of longevity.
Album opener “Misery Loves Company” has a heavier feel and morphs nicely into “Shut Up!”, whilst “Viva Democracy”, “Going Down” and “Godspeed” all require guaranteed time on the stereo. Going back to the album’s bonus track (only available on physical copies) “En För Alla För En”, when vocalist Jakob Samuel sings in English it is hard to believe that this is not his native language and so to hear him sing in Swedish highlights this even more.
With solid guitar work throughout the album courtesy of Henrik Bergqvist, “Tour De Force” will no doubt appeal to a number of you reading this.
Hopefully The Poodles will appear in the UK later this year in support of the album and should be well worth checking out live.
