JAMES YOUNGER – Feelin’ American
This may sound like a classy piece of US heartland rock, yet James Younger comes from Manchester! He nails that classic US rock sound with the lead single ‘Monday Morning’ and the other album stand out, ‘Running Wild’.
‘Two Of A Kind’ could be an unreleased Travelling Wilburys tune, yes it’s that good folks. Love the vocals and the twang of the guitar on this on. At the other of the scale there is the indie rock of ‘What Comes After The Weekend’, sounding slightly out of place with the rest of the album but still a damn fine tune.
An assured debut album from James Younger, recalling Tom Petty in his prime, perfect for those summer days and nights…

THE CAPSULES – Northern Lights & Southern Skies
The Capsules consist of the husband and wife team of Julie Shields (vocals/guitar/keys) and Jason Shields (bass/loops/drums/machines) and drummer Kevin Trevino completes the line-up. They have already made an impression, having had a song feature on the long running ‘Sponge Bob Square Pants’. That gives a clue to the music on this album as it is very much of a soundtrack feel, featuring lots of swirling synths and programmed loops. The vocals of Julie Shields are an acquired taste as she sings at a high pitch and you will either love these or reach for the off switch.
If anything it is the electronica on this album that draws me back, most notably on ‘Across The Sky’ and ‘With Signs Repeating’. Have a listen on their website first as certainly not for everyone I am afraid.

APESKULL
Italian band whose album sounds like a long lost classic from the early 1970’s. That would be job done in the band’s eyes as they aimed to create a rock album based on the period between 1969 and 1972. They have the blues playing mixed with a southern rock feel reminiscent of the Allman Brothers and even early years Blue Oyster Cult (check out ‘Bluesy’ for Buck Dharma approved guitar playing and some Led Zep stomp).
They are very musically confident, they even have a drum solo on ‘So Deep’ and a cover of ‘I Got No Time’ originally recorded by Orange Peel back in 1969.
Apeskull you can see becoming a firm live favourate as their songs naturally align themselves to the live arena and the chance to extend solos depending on the crowd reaction.
