This is not a live concert or ‘best of’ his works performed live, instead it is a fascinating insight into the musical world of Vangelis. The thing that shines through the various interviews, which include Oliver Stone, Jessye Norman and Jon Anderson amongst others, is the high regard Vangelis is held in by his peers. Hardly surprising when you see the amount of hit music he has composed, mainly on films like ‘Bladerunner’, ‘Chariots Of Fire’ and ‘Alexander’ all represented with clips of the films and accompanying music.

Good to see the Jon & Vangelis albums featured, as these should be in any self-respecting prog fans collection. Interesting too the classical way much of his work is composed in, despite him being best known for his banks of synths and keyboards. He comes across as a very humble person and you get an insight to his childhood and how his parents and grandparents survived WW2 in Greece.

I think if watched on TV this would be enough for the casual fan and only those avid Vangelis fans would sit through the two hours of this DVD. It’s not bad, just one of those sort of documentaries you’d watch and enjoy, however you’d be unlikely to watch again. ****
