Album review: THE KILLERHERTZ – A Killer Anthem

Think Danish rock and Lars Ulrich and Volbeat no doubt spring to mind. The Killerhertz are hoping to be the next Danish band to make a breakthrough with this their debut album. The members have all played in various bands around Copenhagen and hooked up together in 2011 with the intention to get back to playing straight forward rock influenced by a range of bands from the 80’s and 90’s.

I mentioned Lars Ulrich and Volbeat at the start as it was Lars who took the band under his wing and gave them a leg up via support tours with Metallica which helped the band in the early days. There is also a Metallica link with The Killerhertz as this album was mixed and mastered by Flemming Rasmussen, the man behind early Metallica releases. So can the Metallica halo work its magic again?

Probably not, to be fair, as the band have done exactly what they set out to do and produced a straight forward heavy rock album. There is little to get excited about here, they are a competent band who play well and have a few rocking tunes but they have no real identity, nothing to make them stand out from the crowd. You could probably hear similar stuff played worldwide in bars on a Friday night, pub rock, good pub rock, but pub rock none the less.

Songs like ‘Let The Game Begin’ and ‘Shattered’ are good numbers which show the band have talent and may well have a future given the right opportunity, but again I come back to the individual identity question as there is little that would make you search for the repeat button to listen again.

A decent debut album then but one for me that comes up short in too many areas to warrant much more than half marks. **1/2
