Album review: KISSIN’ DYNAMITE – Megalomania

KISSIN’ DYNAMITE – Megalomania

AFM Records [Release date 05.09.14]

Kissin’ Dynamite are a young German rock band from the southern Swabia region of the country and even though they are still in their early twenties “Megalomania” is their 4th album.

Debut album “Steel of Swabia” was released back in 2008 when the band members were between 15 and 16 years old! “Addicted to Metal” followed in 2010, “Money, Sex & Power” in 2012 and now “Megalomania”. For a band who I’ve never heard of “Megalomania” is an impressive sounding mix of ‘80’s LA metal, Euro rock, acoustic ballads and most importantly sing-along anthems.

The band is a bit of a family affair with brothers Hannes and Ande Braun leading from the front on vocals and guitars respectively. Jim Müller (guitars), Steffan Haile (bass) and Andreas Schnitzer (drums) complete the line-up.

DNA is a perfect foot tapping opener with its almost New Order’s Blue Monday melody and Mötley Crüe tempo…there is even some “scratching” going on. Maniac Ball follows with its Rasmus meets Scorpions sound and VIP Hell ups the tempo even more with the almost thrash drum beat.

Acoustic ballad Fireflies brings a pleasant but unexpected change in pace. Deadly is very Pink Cream 69 in flavour and God in You features oddball tribal drumming. Running Free is a very poppy sing along number which could give the band some chart action.

Legion Of The Legendary is just plain odd and brings long lost band Moahni Moahna to mind. Second ballad The Last Dance is of the “power” variety. Closer Ticket To Paradise is a typical Euro-Metal number.

Keyboards are used throughout “Megalomania” but the PR literature fails to mention any band member playing them…the keyboards definitely add to the album and make it stand out from other releases.

Nothing to complain about on here…there is sufficient variety between the tracks to keep things interesting and the weird use of keyboards means that you never know what is coming next.

Nice one guys…  ****
