Michael Monroe is back with his latest album the follow-up to 2013′s well received ‘Horns And Halos’. One change in his band with guitarist Rich Jones joining (former Company Of Wolves man Steve Conte is still in the band).
This is a one damn fine rock ‘n’ roll album! It has great feel good vibe to the songs with the opener ‘This This Ain‘t No Love Song’ setting the album’s stall out nicely. A homage to his days in the 80′s follows on ‘Old King‘s Road’ and there is more looking back on ‘Dead Hearts On Denmark Street’, recounting how this famous piece of musical heritage is disappearing. He doesn’t mince his words on the lyrics either.
‘R.L.F.’ sounds like Motorhead jamming with the Ramones, one for the live shows as you can’t help but fist pump to the music. Mr Monroe certainly does have ‘Permanent Youth’, as he never seems to age and his voice is a good as ever. Like a few songs on here the spirit of Hanoi Rocks can be heard. I love ‘Six Feet In The Ground’, his tribute to Johnny Thunders and the twin guitars recall Georgia Satellites.
Proper rock ‘n’ roll music, with great melodies and lyrics, plus music with attitude. I have never been a massive fan of Hanoi Rocks, however Michael Monroe’s solo work I really enjoy and this album is one of his best. ****
