News: WILL ROBERT BRAND NEW EP AND DEBUT HEADLINE TOUR

Ahead of the release of his new ‘Mountain’ E.P. on 19th February through Virgin EMI, acclaimed Cambridge-based troubadour Will Robert will embark on fifteen-date debut headline tour of the UK.

The life-affirming five-track E.P. will be available to buy before its official release date exclusively at Will’s forthcoming tour dates, which start on 25th January at Norwich’s Bicycle Shop venue and ends on 15th February at Birmingham’s Kitchen Garden Café.

Will said, “I’m really happy with the ‘Mountain’ E.P.; I think it’s some of the best material I’ve written to date and I’m excited for people to hear it. I also think it represents a slight shift in sound for me. As with my debut album, I recorded it at my home in Cambridge. It’s a great way for me to work, although I have to be careful not to upset my neighbours. I haven’t had any complaints so far, though.”

Having released his debut EP back in 2012, Will walked away from a promising career as a sound engineer to embark on his musical adventure as a singer-songwriter, playing over three-hundred performances in city centres across the whole of Europe with nothing but his guitar and his charismatic collection of songs for company.

Performing his uplifting brand of soulful, folk-tinged songs to anyone who would listen and making just enough cash along the way to keep moving from city to city, Will earned himself a loyal group of fans.

Will released his first full-length studio album, ‘Transitions’, in October 2014, and it was then that his months of “couch surfing” across Europe paid off.

Will’s local BBC Introducing station in Cambridge started playing ‘City Lights’, the opening track from ‘Transitions’ and, following a number of Introducing Sessions the song was selected by BBC Radio One to be added to the station’s playlist in January 2015 as a featured Introducing artist.

This led to the track being playlisted on Radio 1, alongside support from the stations new music champion Huw Stephens, which led to comparisons with acclaimed artists such as Ben Howard and Bon Iver.

In early summer 2015, Will challenged himself to perform one hundred shows in one hundred days across the streets, stages and venues of the UK and Europe, which coincided with sets played to packed audiences at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Secret Garden Party and Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall.

Last summer also saw the release of Will’s second single, the uplifting and catchy ‘Best Laid Plans’, which once again gained support from Huw Stephens via airplays on Radio 1. Autumn 2015 took will to Germany, where he completed a mini-tour playing shows in Hamburg, Berlin and the Ears Wide Open Festival.

A new year has now dawned and Will is looking forward to his debut headline tour dates, “Touring the country is something I’ve been aiming towards since I was fifteen, so I’m pretty excited its happening. As much as I still enjoy performing on city streets, it’s quite nice to have a tour of venues with roofs in January & February!”
