DVD review: TWISTED SISTER – We Are Twisted F***ing Sister

TWISTED SISTER - We Are Twisted F***ing Sister

Monduo Films [Release date 11.03.16]

Twisted Sister – part cartoon, part waxwork, 100% rock n’ roll. This DVD release of Andrew Horn’s 2014 film charts the history of the band from their earliest incarnation back in 1972 up to the point where Atlantic Records finally made them the massive ‘80’s hit band they deserved to be.

With tales of destruction, frustration, struggle and the marketing genius that made the band a huge success with their fan base before they even signed to a record label, this DVD is not only a must have for fans of Twisted Sister, but is a great film for rock fans in general. It is also one of the most thorough and well put together music biographies I have seen for a while.

The film itself comes in at 137 minutes and there are over 2 hours of bonus material to be had. The interviews within the main feature include those with band members, fans, employees, contemporaries and ex-bandmates, with each one building up the intriguing story of Twisted Sister. As you would imagine there is also a ton of live footage included and, more than the bands original music, there is some Bowie covers and even a rendition of Judas Priest’s “Hell Bent for Leather”.

“We are Twisted F*cking Sister!” is, as if you haven’t already guessed, a great film and the in-depth interviews with the band themselves is what has really made this the case. Director Andrew Horn has done a stunning job here and I can see many other bands seeking him out for similar projects in the not too distant future.  *****
