Eagle Rock [Release date 04.11.16]
New Year’s Eve 2015 in Los Angeles is all about one thing. Motley Crue is playing the final show of their two year Final Tour at the Staples Centre and in doing so the band is bringing the curtain down on a career that has been nothing short of a musical juggernaut.
Thankfully the event was filmed and, if you have attended any of the shows on the tour, you are in luck as the set remained the same for all shows- making this DVD/CD release the perfect souvenir of the band. The show itself is big, emotional in part and exactly what you would expect from Motley Crue- the epitome of rock n roll. Let’s put this into context here for a moment, when you consider that after 35 years the Rolling Stones were performing at the steadier pace of the Bridges to Babylon tour, Motley Crue are still giving it large on the rock n roll front (could you imagine Charlie Watts playing drums on a rollercoaster. Upside down?).
The whole show is here, misfiring rollercoaster and all, and starts with the riggers setting up the arena, which gives it a good feel of the enormity of what is to come. The set list, as you would imagine, contains everything a fan would want to hear “Wildside”, “Dr Feelgood”, “Shout At The Devil”, “Girls, Girls, Girls” and, obviously, emotional show closer “Home Sweet Home”. The accompanying CD features most of the show, with only the drum and guitar solos missing.
The bonus features on the DVD include a look at Tommy Lee’s ground-breaking roller coaster set up and Nikki Sixx’s flame throwing bass. There is also personal, in depth and insightful interviews with all four band members.
The DVD comes in several formats including a deluxe book, bluray and CD set as well as separate DVD, CD/DVD, vinyl and bluray editions. Having been to six shows on the Final Tour I can confirm that this is the perfect reminder of a band, the likes of which we will never see again. *****
