ADRENALINE RUSH Soul Survivor Frontiers [Release date 21.04.17]
Album number two from Adrenaline Rush, the band built around former pop singer Tave Wanning. The band have undergone a couple of line-up changes with Sam Soderlindh (lead guitar) and Joel Fox (bass) joining existing band members Tave, Alexander Hagman (rhythm guitar) and Marcus Johansson (drums). Erik Martensson is still involved on the production side of things, along with Marten Wanning and three of the songs on here are penned by the Blood Red Saints duo of Pete Godfrey and Lee Revill.
I was not overly taken by the debut album, however this album is step up for me as it is more metal sounding in feel and suits Tave’s vocals better, as she can really belt out the vocals over a suitably metal backing.
Songs like ‘Adrenaline’ and ‘Breaking The Chains’ are fine examples of melodic metal, whilst the title track allows Tave to show her gentler side on a big production power ballad. There is still a little of the glam metal sound from the debut, namely on the Motley Crue sounding ‘Stand My Ground’, an instant hit on the ears.
Safe to say if you enjoyed Adrenaline Rush’s debut album you will like this one and I can see it winning over more listeners with its focus now on melodic metal. ***1/2

BLOOD COMMAND Cult Drugs Fysisk Format [Release date 28.04.17]
Blood Command have already been reeling in the plaudits with their earlier albums including landing a top 10 year end placing in Kerrang!’s albums of 2012.
This is one heck of a musical roller coaster ride as opener ‘Ctl+Alt+Delete’ fair strips the wallpaper off the walls with the screaming vocals of Karina Ljone, although later in the sng she is adding a more melodic touch to her singing.
It really is a mish-mash of musical styles, one minute it is all out metal riffs and screams, then pop synths before adding in some dance beats and that’s all in one song the album’s title track! ‘(The World Covered In) Purple Shrouds’ sees the song be led in by a trumpet – the band try anything musically and amidst all the aggressive vocals and guitars, they never lose site of the melody.
I think its safe to say this album will be topping year end charts again in the likes of ‘Kerrang!’ magazine. ***1/2

DUNCAN LLOYD IOUOME
Afternoon In Bed Records [Release date 26.05.17]
Duncan Lloyd releases his second solo album, IOUOME and he is best known as a member of Maximo Park (the band’s drummer Tom English helps out on this album). He has also worked in other projects including Decade In Exile and Nano Kino.
It is a very short album with ten songs clocking in at just thirty minutes in total, although each song gets it’s message across with the like the Byrds and the Thrills combined) the other stand outs on the album.
A proper solo album in that it doesn’t bear much resemblance to his main band and instead allows him to delve into another musical path. A proper grower of an album as on the first few plays I wasn’t overly hooked on the songs, now can’t stop playing the darn thing! ****

COAL CREEK S/T
Coal Creek hail from Germany and this is their debut album, with vocalist/guitarist Julian Breucker penning all the lyrics. Now they have a decent sound but don’t quite seem where to go as one minute it can sound like Shinedown (less the electronics) on ‘Black Dream’, then they have scream vocals or Theory Of A Deadman leftovers on ‘From The Inside’.
It just doesn’t gel with the listener and not an album you want to play again anytime soon sadly. Shame, as a cool band name and I was expecting maybe some uptempo alt rock given the band’s name. **1/2

LIGHT FREEDOM REVIVAL Eterniverse Deja Vu
Light Freedom Revival is the brainchild of John Vehadija who has roped in some name prog rock musicians such as Billy Sherwood, Oliver Wakeman and Eric Gillette (Neal Morse) to help him out.
It is a concept piece based on John Vehahjia’s own beliefs about planetary systems, crystals and ascending this current world. Fair play to him and the fact he is sharing his beliefs through music (with a book to follow in due course). The album artwork and CD inlay is stunning, well worth a look.
Musically there are plenty of grandiose arrangements including some epic guitar and keyboard solos you’d expect given the musicians involved. The main problem is the slightly twee vocals of John Vehadija; now if for example Jon Anderson was singing these songs we’d be talking! Approach with caution, although if you can get past the vocals there is much to hear and enjoy musically. ***
