Album review: AMELIA WHITE – Rhythm Of The Rain

AMELIA WHITE - Rhythm Of The Rain

[Release date 27.10.17]

East Nashville based singer and songwriter Amelia White’s 2014 offering Old Postcard, her 6th long player, was what I’d describe as ‘a keeper’ – an Americana/soft rock cross over album reminiscent of classic Tom Petty and delivered with a vocal drawl carrying elements of Stevie Nicks and Marianne Faithful.

In contrast, her last release Home Sweet Hotel (2016) was a darker, moodier, hit and more often miss reflection on the life on the road.

But her latest offering, Rhythm Of The Rain, while just nine tracks over a somewhat economical 32 minutes, is a less serious record recorded in four days between her mother’s death and her own wedding.  It’s a return to more accessible easy wheeling numbers, White’s storytelling vocals compelling from the outset.

It’s a set that will surely appeal to those addicted to Sheryl Crow when she strays close to the white line that straddles the rock/country highway.   Compelling.  ****
