DVD review: EAGLES OF DEATH METAL – I Love You All The Time Live in Paris

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL - I Love You All The Time Live in Paris

Eagle Vision [Release date 04.08.17] CD/DVD

Love them or hate them, you have to admire the Eagles of Death Metal – just three months after the appalling terrorist attack on their 2015 gig at Paris’ Bataclan gig the band were back in Paris to “finish their set”. Filmed at the larger Olympia venue, the band stand defiant and really act as one for the entire rock community in a kind of giant one finger symbol to the idea of terrorism.

The band’s 19 song set includes the likes of “Cherry Cola”, “I Got A Feelin’ (Just Nineteen)”, “I Love You All The Time”, “Speaking in Tongues”, a take on Stealers’s Wheel’s “Stuck In The Middle” reworked as “Stuck In The Metal” and a great rendition of Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer”.

The energetic band sound great and this is a great gig that doesn’t act as a sad reflection of earlier events but as a message that the actions of a few misplaced individuals will not mar the lives of the wider population. That said, there is a moments silence and emotional words from frontman Jesse Hughes, but this is to be expected and adds to the overall feeling of the band and audience enjoying the night as one. ***1/2
