Frontiers [Release date 10.11.17]

Frontiers have released some outstanding albums this year and new album “Revelation Highway” from San Francisco’s Babylon A.D. is right up there amongst the best of these. Nearly 30 years since the band first formed they are one of the few of their era who can still boast the original line-up and this release comes 17 years after last studio album “American Blitzkrieg”.

“Revelation Highway” has got the lot- great guitars, choruses and hooks a plenty and as soon as you hear opening track “Crash and Burn” you are hit with the realisation that the band sound exactly as they did in the late ‘80’s, in fact, close your eyes and this track drops you right back onto the Strip.

The album contains 10 strong tracks with “I’m No Good For You”, “She Likes To Give It “and “Fool On Fire” being my favourites. There are a couple of slower songs in “One Million Miles” and the Europe like “Last Time For Love” and special mention must be made of the guitar work on “Tears” and “Don’t Tell Me Tonight” in particular.

What really stands out on “Revelation Highway”, aside from the consistency of the song writing throughout, is Derek Davis’ vocals as these really have not changed much in the 3 decades since the release of the band’s debut album. *****
