Album review: COWBOY JUNKIES – All That Reckoning

“All That Reckoning” is the 17th studio album from Cowboy Junkies since they formed back in 1985. The album is easy to listen to with every song telling a story, whether that be deep, personal or about society in general.

The first few tracks on the album are beautifully sparse yet sonically rich, take for example the title track “All That Reckoning (Part 1)”, featuring just bass and vocals this perfectly highlights the depth of Margo Timmins’ vocals.

The band is best known for its Americana sound and so it should be as they do this so well, with the more laid back songs like “The Things We Do To Each Other “and “Wooden Stairs” being offset by the fuller numbers such as “Sing Me A Song”, “Missing Children” and “All That Reckoning (Part 2)”.

Guitarist Michael Timmins describes the album as the bands deepest and most complete record to date and he’s not wrong. ****
