Album review: JETBOY – Born To Fly
Frontiers [Release date 25.01.19]
With their first full album of new material since 1990, “Born To Fly” is a welcome return for Jetboy. The band includes original members Micky Finn on vocals alongside guitarists, and founder members, Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe, along with the addition of former Faster Pussycat bassist Eric Stacy and drummer Al Serrato and the results are everything that long-time fans would want to hear.
Opening track “Beating The Odds” is an unexpectedly modern and more melodic sounding song but this gives way to title track “Born To Fly”, which I can only describe as the album’s main “head sticker”.
“Old Dog, New Tricks” features some very Michael Monroe like harmonica from Finn, not surprising as Hanoi Rocks were a major influence on the band. There are two tracks on the album that are a little bit different but really work well, the first being “The Way That You Move Me” which has a more laid back and relaxed feel to it, in an almost “Exile On Main Street” way. The second if “Smoky Ebony” which has a nice bluesy, countrified vibe to it.
From start to finish “Born To Fly” does not disappoint, tracks like “All Over Again”, “She”, “A Little Bit Easy”, “Every Time I Go” and “Party Time!” are exactly how you would want them and literally roll the last twenty odd years right back. Hopefully the band will reap the rewards of this second coming and go on a tour, record, tour cycle for the next few years. *****
